Abacus: contrivance for calculating, consisting of beads or balls strung on wires or rods set in a frame.
Pattern-making! I thought this would make a cool looking pattern…birthed on paper, and revived digitally.
Aback: taken aback, suddenly disconcerted.
“SAY WHAT?”
Abaca: Philippine plant, the fiber of this plant, used in making rope.
The beautiful fibers remind me of hair. :-)
Aba: a sleeveless outer garment, worn by Arabs.
This one made my hand hurt but I like where it’s going :-)
AARON: the first high priest of the Hebrews and the brother of Moses.
Fun with line and swirls!
AARHUS: a seaport in Denmark, in East Jutland.
A viking inspired piece im working on- the runes spell aarhus
AARDWOLF: striped, hyena-like African mammal, that feeds largely on insects.
I love this little guy, he’s in a piece I did last year for the Instigatorzine Invitational.
AARDVARK: a large, nocturnal, burrowing mammal of Africa, subsisting largely on termites, and having a long, extensile tongue, claws, and conspicuously long ears.
I had lots of fun drawing this guy, I wanted the type to reflect his muscular insides.
AALBORG: a seaport in Denmark
Inspired by typography I saw online.
AACHEN: a city in West Germany taken by US forces Oct. 1944
Inspired by the current city roads.
A (2012 I started out with hand lettering different A’s)
1. the first letter of the English alphabet
2. the highest mark for school or college work
3. the sixth tone in the scale of C major, or the first in the relative minor scale of A minor.
Hey friends!
I began a project last year called “Dictionary Sketch” inspired by the motivation to STAY CREATIVE, and LEARN NEW WORDS. Basically I will run down the words on my dictionary and create something with that word/letter of the alphabet. This includes drawings, letterings, or anythings with any medium. I hope you enjoy, and I hope to stay regular with the posting and sharing. Stay tuned, visit lclemente.com for my professional work, and feel free to contact/comment.
Have a great day! -Lauren

This is the dictionary i’ll be working from, it’s awesome and old.
